Garden Blogger's Bloom Day June 2016

Hi everybody!   I hope you're staying cool on these hot summer days.  We have hit a stretch of hot and humid weather here in Baltimore, and I tell you what, I'm so glad our old house has a big, strong window A/C unit pumping some cool air into the house!

It's the 15th of the month, and so I'm pleased to be joining in on the Garden Blogger's Bloom Day party. I'm so happy, and honestly kind of surprised, to see all the blooms we have going on in the garden right now.   It made for a fun photo-editing session, looking at all of the pretties that I found throughout the yard!

I guess I'll stop typing now, and just let the beauty of the blooms speak for themselves.   I'd love to hear about your gardens, and take a look a your photos... won't you leave a comment to say hello and lead the way to your blog?  See you there!

** Did anyone else notice that my article title says "June 2016", not "July 2016"?   Oh my gosh.   I'd put my head on backwards if it wasn't already screwed on tight.   This post showcases blooms from JULY 2016.   In case there's any confusion.   Thanks.  :-)

I do want to interject here and just exclaim for a moment about the Front Corner Hill.   Just a few weeks ago, so many of these plants were struggling, and not much blooming.  The garden has really started to fill in. Surprisingly, not much has died, hooray!  and only a few things have been eaten by deer.   All in all, this garden is doing pretty well!  It just needs more plants now, to completely fill in the large area of mulch.  "Next year," says the checkbook.

We have four or five mophead hydrangeas (possibly "Endless Summer"?) that were here when we moved in.   None of them have many blooms to speak of, like this one.   Only about 6 blooms total from all of the shrubs so far this year.   Not sure why... do you have any ideas?

Cilantro in the vegetable garden has gone to flower, so I guess we'll count that on Bloom Day, right?

That's a pretty exhaustive list of the plants currently blooming here at Harmony Hills.  I hope you're enjoying pretty blooms in your yard, too.   Drop me a line in the comments to tell me all about them!

I'm so glad you were here today.  It makes me feel good to know that you stopped by to take a look around our gardens with me.

Our yard and gardens have been undergoing a huge metamorphosis this year.  Check out this post to see how we totally transformed our side yard:

We put in a small vegetable garden in a corner of the yard that gets just enough sun.   It's not going to feed us through the winter or anything, but it's cute anyway.  :-)    If you have a minute, come over and look at it with me, and maybe give me some advice on how to do it better next year!

  3. Lovely. Do deer eat zinnias? Maybe I could try those in front. So far they have not touched the salvia I used to replace daylilies last year. (daylilies safe in the fenced garden - for now at least)

    1. Hi Denise, so far I've not seen deer damage on zinnias, in this yard or in our previous yards. So that might be a good idea for you! I am searching for some sunny spots in my fenced area to put some pretty daylilies, that will be a goal for me next year, as they are one of my favorite plants. Let me know how the zinnia idea goes for you if you try it. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I love your annual pots. Lovely combination of colors. For some reason we have problems growing zinnias at our house but they do well at our local community garden (that's why I didn't post any photos but maybe I will later in the week.) Happy GBBD and glad you can escape the heat. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  5. Deer can be so destructive. We have them here too. Lovely to watch as they wander through the lower part of the garden, but they don't always stay where they're supposed to be! You have some gorgeous blooms.

  6. Very nice selection of blooms. I really like your front container, very pretty. Usually, spring trimming affects hydrangea blooms. My Endless Summer always had lots of blooms, but it was in very bright sun. It rarely wilted in Summer, but I removed all the Hydrangea because we have had drought and high temps for a few years now. BTW, my brother lives in Baltimore. I know you have had the high heat.

  7. On what a delight! Your garden is abundant with colorful blooms and the Zinnias and Dahlias are especially gorgeous! Everything is looking great despite the deer!

  9. Budleia?
I too love geranium Rozanne. didn't appear until very late this year, but is now blooming her heart out inbetween all the other geraniums.

    1. This is the first time I've planted Roxanne... she's asking for more water than she's getting, I'm afraid, but hopefully next year she'll be more established and will withstand the hot dry corner hill more easily. I might move her up closer to the house so I can keep my eye on her better. :-)
